CUE Conference 2023

The College and University Educators SIG is delighted to announce that our 30th anniversary conference will take place from September 15th to 18th, 2023, at University of Toyama (富山大学) in Gofuku, Toyama. It will be a face-to-face event.

The theme for CUE 2023 is "CUEing for Success - Teacher Reflection and Self-Care in Tertiary Education". The experiences of the past few years have made clear the importance of acknowledging the human element of teaching including the following:

• reflective teaching needs and practices
• personal & professional development and growth
• self-care strategies (including but not limited to mentorship, mental health, self-advocacy, work-life boundaries, understanding your employment rights in Japan, preparing for retirement, etc.)
• awareness of neurodiversity and inclusivity in the classroom
• the psychological challenges of adapting to various educational modalities

We welcome presentations that address the themes above within tertiary education contexts, especially in Japan. Topics may include self-care strategies, linguistics, language learning, or methodology, as well as issues related to gender, diversity, and accessibility in college and university settings, reflective and inclusive teaching practices, mentoring others, improving communication, getting involved in professional organizations, or anything else that you feel would help college and university educators develop professionally. The goals of the conference are to celebrate the 30th anniversary of CUE, provide opportunities for research advancement, and create and nurture connections between tertiary educators and students.

Participants are invited to arrive from Friday evening and explore downtown Toyama. Sessions will be held on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a conference dinner on Saturday night and a local cultural excursion on Monday. Tickets will be available at a future date.
