Whether you use an assigned textbook, a commercial text of your own choice, authentic materials, student-generated content or a combination thereof, there are many ways you can easily enrich the lesson with the addition of a component promoting awareness of gender issues. In this workshop, I will introduce a selection of examples from various genres, including anime, movies, music and news, and encourage participants to brainstorm about ways to incorporate such materials into your repertoire.

"Beyond the Binary: GALE Journal interview with JALT2014 Plenary Speaker Gerry Yokota" is a retrospective of her plenary talk at JALT2014, Tsukuba, and will give participants a better sense of what she will be talking about this month in Matsuyama.
Bio: Gerry Yokota is Professor of English and Contemporary Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies at Osaka University. Having taught academic writing to Japanese frosh and sophs, Japanese culture to junior and senior international students, and gender theory in her graduate seminars for over twenty years, she has become adept at bridging theory and practice as well as cultures.
