Join the Nagoya-Gifu chapter as we kick off the new year with our first event of 2025: "Fun Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture" with Tofy-Sensei." Toufic Sarieddine, a Lebanese resident of Nagoya for over eight years, will introduce himself and share his educational background and work experience in this presentation. He will also provide a brief overview of the Arab World, starting with his home country, Lebanon. This country is renowned for its ancient Roman monuments, Ottoman heritage, world-famous cuisine, four distinct seasons, popular music, and multilingual citizens who speak Arabic, English, and French.
Following this introduction, Toufic will conduct a short lesson on Arabic. This will include an explanation of the Arabic alphabet, writing system, and rules for connecting letters. He will also discuss the meaning of his name, teach some useful phrases (such as "please," "thank you," and "my name is"), explain the relationship between verbs and nouns in Arabic, and conclude by writing the names of a few volunteer audience members in Arabic.
Toufic Sarieddine holds a degree from Nagoya University and teaches at NUFS and NCU. He has lived in Nagoya for over eight years and has several academic publications.
JALT members, first-time visitors, and undergraduate students are free. Non-members are 1,000 yen. The event will be held on the fourth floor of the Nagoya International Center. The center is near the Kokusai Center station on the Sakuradori (Red) subway line,.
Hope to see you there!
