Title- English Instruction from Elementary School through High School
Presenters- Jon Ivan Pinsan and Masanori Oyama
Abstract- This special meeting will showcase instructors in both junior and senior high schools. In addition, elementary school English instruction will be discussed in an open dialogue format with the participants. The talks and discussion will focus on the following points: 1. Who are your students? 2. What do they think about English? 3. How do you teach them? 4. What challenges (problems) do you have?
5. What is the reality vs. what you thought before teaching? Active audience participation is encouraged.
Bio- Ivan was born in the Philippines and lived there until he graduated high school. His family moved to Toronto, Canada when he was 17 years old where he took a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics at York University. He previously worked as an Assistant Language Teacher at Yamagata Minami High School. Currently, he teaches at Shinjo East High School. His main interests are watching world cinema and playing board games.
Masanori Oyama is a recent graduate from Yamagata University. He currently works as an English instructor at Shinjo Junior High School. He mainly teaches 2nd year students. 'Nori' has spent some time in the UK and has many interests including photography and board games. He's now learning the ins and outs of softball since he's the coach for the school team!
