The Contrast Culture Method (CCM) is an intercultural training
approach which can be effectively used in many different contexts
(classrooms, businesses, teacher training, etc.) It is a collaborative process where the goal is to raise awareness of cultural and value differences that can affect our decisions and behavior. The method was first developed in the 1960s, but began to be used in Japan in 1999.
The main focus of the training is a role play, where one person is a
trained actor while the other plays her/himself. The actor reacts to the other role player in a way that highlights the contrasts between them, hence the name, Contrast Culture. A facilitator then takes the group through questioning, discussion, and reflection. The group process is essential.
The CCM Group will present a 3-day workshop/retreat:
【Subject to change】
Day one: General introduction and participation in an intensive CCM
training.
Day two: Discussion on how to implement CCM training, and how to
make suitable scenarios. Practice and reflection of scenarios while giving all participants a chance to take turns in playing the contrast player or reference player.
Day three: Reflection and further training about the role of facilitator in CCM.
