Promoting Student Engagement in Global Project-Based Learning
Project-based learning (PBL) is considered to be one of the most effective ways to
promote student engagement. In this practical presentation Mari will introduce a global PBL
project conducted between her adolescent learners and high school students in Moldova, and will
report on the students’ and her own reflections on this project with a focus on student
engagement. The audience will have ample opportunity to contribute to the session through
discussions in relation to their own unique teaching contexts.
Mari Nakamura, the founder of a professional development community, MELEP, has 30 years of
experience in teaching young learners. She gave a plenary presentation on her intercultural
exchange projects and learner agency at the JALT 2019 International Conference.
