Research that inspires

Event Speaker(s):
Chiyuki Yanase
Andy Boon
Sunday, June 19, 2022 - 2:00pm

For many teachers, reading research in the field can seem unconnected to their everyday working lives. However, engaging with research in the field can spark new ideas, validate existing strategies, rekindle our passion for teaching, and make us feel part of a community that constantly seeks to develop our teaching.

In this workshop, the presenters will describe a book or article that has had a significant impact on their teaching. Participants will then be invited to share research that has had a great influence on their teaching and discuss the importance of building connections with other educators to share experiences and expand our professional communities.

CHIYUKI YANASE is a lecturer at several universities in Tokyo. She has been teaching English for over 30 years at various institutions and holds an MSc in TESOL from Aston University. Her current research interests focus on Language Teacher Wellbeing and project-based approach.

ANDY BOON is a professor in the faculty of Global Communications at Toyo Gakuen University, Tokyo. He has been teaching in Japan for over 20 years and holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Aston University. He has presented at numerous conferences and published extensively. He is author and co-author of various coursebooks and graded readers.
