Conference Date: July 3rd (Sunday)
Location: Hachinohe Gakuin University
Theme: “ ‘To Know’ & ‘To Do’; Exploring the Bridge (Gap?) Between Theory and Practice in Language Teaching”
How much language theory does one need in order to teach it? In other words, is formal training in English Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition (SLA) an advantage or inconsequential or even detrimental to the English teacher’s practical skills? And what about any effects on the students? This theme can be rephrased as: What is the relationship between Linguistics/SLA theory and method/technique?
This year’s theme was chosen specifically to be enticing as well as a bit provocative. We hope to receive a wide range of abstracts, from personal experiences in SLA programs to on-site training to in-the-trenches classroom pedagogy. We believe this topic touches all of us: teachers, linguists, SLA researchers, private school teachers or administrators, JETs, etc. We hope to hear from you!
