Why TBLT Fits the Brain, and How to Design Your Own

Event Speaker(s):
Curtis Kelly, Ed.D.
Sunday, April 24, 2022 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Task-Based Language Teaching is becoming increasingly recognized as an effective way, if not the most effective way, to teach languages. It does something traditional approaches do not: it closes the gap between knowing and doing. In neuroscience, this function is called cognitive control, the way the brain turns goals into actions. The presenter, a TBLT textbook author for major publishers, will define TBLT and offer some key principles for TBLT task design. The principles provide guidance on how to engage students, control language targets, and solve typical class management problems, such as keeping learners in the target language.
