Title- Creating Comprehensible Input and Blending with a Task-based Approach for Japanese Primary School English Classes- Part 2

Abstract- One role of the teacher is to create appropriate comprehensible input for students both at the planning stage and in real time in the classroom. This takes a lot of time and effort. This presentation will explain and show practical ways to do this.
Also in this presentation the question of whether or not it is useful to combine a task with the input will be considered with reference to; type of task, age of children and how to use each task.
*Although this presentation is “Part 2”, a brief summary of Part 1 will be included to allow people who missed Part 1 to understand and enjoy this presentation.
Bio- John has been involved with teaching children for over 25 years. Initially in the UK, John was a primary school teacher He started teaching as a primary school teacher in the UK and in Japan has taught at every age ranging from kindergarten through to university. During his time in Japan, John set up and successfully ran his own private school for children, but currently works at Miyagi Gakuin Women’s University in Sendai as a professor and Head of the English department. At the university he teaches courses in speaking, listening, reading, writing and Teaching English to Children.
John has presented nationally and internationally in Asia, Europe and the U.S. He has been a guest presenter at Teachers College Columbia University- Japan, invited speaker on the ETJ Teacher Training Tour, plenary speaker at PANSIG conference and Featured-Speaker at the JALT International Conference and MICELT conference in Malaysia and was a regular speaker on the Longman kid’s Tour in Japan.
John co-authored the English Firsthand Series which is a best seller in Japan, Korea and Taiwan and his recent six level primary course: Our Discovery Island sells well in countries in Asia, South America, Africa and Europe. Both series are published by Pearson.
In addition to his professional record John has two children now aged 20 and 21 who have been brought up to be bilingual and importantly bi-literate (English / Japanese).

Abstract- 単なる“インプット”ではなく、“理解可能なインプット”を生徒にもたらす為には、教師による的確な「創作」が準備段階のみならずクラスの際にも不可欠である。至極時間と労力を要することではあるが、本講演において、その実践的な取り組み方を具体的に提示・解説する。
また、タスクの併用が有用であるか否かに関しては、如何なるタスクを、如何ように、如何なる学年に、等を踏まえて考察する。

Bio- 英国の小学校に始まり、２５年以上にわたり児童英語に携わっているが、日本においては幼稚園から大学に至るまで、幅広く、それぞれの年齢を教える経験を持つ。日本では児童向けの英会話スクールを好調に開設・運営の経験もあり、現在は宮城学院女子大学英文学科の教授として、また、同学科の学科長として英語教育に従事している。同大学においては、スピーキング、リスニング、リーディング、ライティング、そして児童英語教育のコースを教授している。
日本国内のみならず、アジア、ヨーロッパそして米国において国際的に講演をしており、Teachers College Columbia University- Japanにてゲスト講演、ETJ Teacher Training Tourにて依頼講演、PANSIG conferenceにて特別講演、JALT全国大会及びマレーシアにおけるMICELT conferenceにてフィーチャードスピーカーとして講演、ならびにLongman kid’s Tourのレギュラースピーカーを経験している。
日本、韓国、台湾においてベストセラーとなっているEnglish Firsthand Seriesの共同著者であり、また、最近の共著である６レベルに分かれた初級コースブックOur Discovery Islandはアジア、南米、アフリカ及びヨーロッパにて好評であり、どちらのシリーズもPearson.から出版されている。
専門分野に加えて、英語・日本語のバイリンガル、さらに重要なことにはbi-literate（２カ国語の読み書きができる人）である、１９歳、２０歳になる２人の子供の父親でもある。
