Title- Team-teaching, Classroom Dynamics and the Role of the ALT in Elementary and Junior High Schools
Abstract- Every year, thousands of new ALTs come to work in Japanese classrooms. With the recent and currently ongoing changes being made in English education, the traditional role of the ALT has also begun to change. New ALTs often have no idea what to expect in regards to their role and what kind of teachers they will be working with. At this month’s meeting, I will discuss my experiences of the last three years in which I worked with many teachers in a variety of situations. I hope that it will provide useful advice and an insight as to how team-taught classes can work.
Bio- Brian Borgerding is a fourth year ALT with the JET program. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University where he studied foreign language and communications. Before coming to Japan he worked with Washtenaw Literacy, a volunteer group that helps with tutoring for people learning ESL.
