Can We Do It? The Potential of CEFR-J in University English Classes

Event Speaker(s):
Jerry Miller
Saturday, July 12, 2014 - 1:30pm to 3:30pm

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) has achieved much success in helping to determine individual proficiency levels in foreign languages in Europe. Increasingly, it is being implemented in countries outside of Europe, including Japan (CEFR-J), to provide better teaching and learning resources to meet language-learning needs. One of the main tenets of the framework revolves around the utilization of “can-do” statements to assess levels. In this talk, the speaker will give an overview of CEFR-J and offer suggestions on how to best apply the framework to enhance English instruction at the university level in Japan.
