Event Report, Ibaraki Chapter December 2017

IBARAKI: December—Note-taking methods for academic and professional purposes by Jeroen Bode. According to Bode, note-taking is one of the important study skills, for it can help us identify important information, retain it, and use it later for reports and presentations. However, we are rarely taught of this skill, thus taking notes that are randomly organized and even incomprehensible at times. Thus, in this presentation, Bode guided us through the art of note-taking, covering a range of topics including notebook types, organizational methods, and cross-cultural note-taking styles. His explanations were intriguing because they were informed by his years of experience not only instructing his students on this skill but also interpreting for the police, which had required him of constant and meticulous note-taking. Throughout the presentation, he also shared notes he had taken over the years, which we found not only practical and well-organized but aesthetically appealing.
