Pat Conaway- As a part of online teaching many of us have started using an LMS (learning management system). Unfortunately in Japan, many institutions have adopted domestically produced platforms which do not have a robust support community on the Internet. I’m going to give a brief walk-through of some of the functions on the WebClass LMS and introduce a playlist of YouTube tutorial videos that I’m making to support it.
Eamon Watters- The move to online classes made widespread changes to teaching plans, styles, and methods necessary. Beloved activities had to be modified or trashed, class interaction changed greatly, and for many a myriad PowerPoints crashed into the minutiae of Learning Management Systems and online worksheets in a Zoom-enabled technological car crash. I will cover the travails of one teacher's experience.
Douglas Gloag- 1st year classes (same content), a Study Abroad preparation class for 10 students and a semi online/face-to-face class for international students were taught. Mistakes were made but some new ideas worked and will be adapted and used again in the future. I'll look at Web class / Flipgrid / Zoom with small numbers.
Jerry Miller- All classes were taught using Zoom. I experimented with Flipgrid in five of my classes. At YU, WebClass was used to communicate with students. I’ll highlight the pros and cons of each system as well as the prospects of implementing online content in the future.
