Please join us for another casual Zoom event about education, teaching, and professional development!
This time we welcome special guest Nathaniel Reed from ALT Training Online (ALTTO), "a grassroots initiative to provide open access teacher training to ALTs (but not necessarily restricted to them) across Japan."
He will talk about ALTTO, how it's currently looking, some future directions and the people putting it together. He welcomes others to join them with content, and hopes to spread the ALTTO word.
"Nathaniel Reed finished an MA in 2015, his dissertation (like so many) others was about ALTs: the lack of training they have and opportunities to improve education. But unlike so many others he decided to do something about it. From research he decided that from the bottom up was the way to go so ALT Training Online (ALTTO), an open access grassroots platform was born. Going largely by how his distance learning MA modules were completed the website started similarly: a fairly stating, read content and answer reflection questions type course. But over time it has grown and currently a new site is being put together using Moodle with various interactive and learning features.
Nathaniel Reed is a self-titled 'visionary', as pretentious as that sounds he's actually looking at the continued development of teaching skills, not at any end goals - the 'vision' is continually moving forward. 6 years into being an ALT he is seeing gradual improvements to language education in public schools and is dedicated to move these along more. A father of two he moved into his house last year that took a year to design and build he can't get enough of family time there. he has promising 'visions' of his children's future (even when they are whining!)"
