Hi JALT Members!
Are you interested in volunteering as an officer with the TD SIG for the year ahead?
From JALT2021 onwards, a few of our officers will be stepping aside from our group after many years of service, and we’re planning to confirm replacements at our Annual General Meeting at the conference on Saturday, November 13. To that end, we are principally looking for one or more members to fill each of the following positions:
- Coordinator(s) to lead SIG activities and represent the group at JALT’s Executive Board Meetings.
- Programmes Chair(s) to coordinate SIG events such as conferences, workshops, and symposiums, and invited guest presentations.
- Journal Layout Editor(s) to format and design the SIG’s journal contents.
As well as these roles, we’re always on the lookout to find more volunteers who could work alongside current officers to share responsibilities. These other duties include treasury, membership, publicity, and publications. Although officers are linked to specific duties, volunteers have the chance to contribute to different areas of the SIG, so these positions should be considered as flexible and collaborative. SIG officers tend to communicate via a mailing group, with any work and responsibilities able to be tailored around your other commitments. JALT also has networks in place to connect, support, and guide officers in similar roles.
In volunteering for the TD SIG as an officer, you’ll have the chance to shape and influence the group’s activities, such as through suggesting invited presenters to speak and having access to the SIG’s funds for projects and initiatives. In addition, becoming a volunteer with our SIG and JALT is an effective way to develop your professional and academic credentials within Japan’s language teaching world.
If you think that you'd be able to help us out in some capacity, whether you’re interested in a particular role or not fully decided, we'd be really grateful to hear from you at . We'd be happy to answer any questions that you may have and put you in contact with current officers for more details.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration!
Best wishes,
The TD SIG Officers
