Being Funny in L2 English

Abstract:

Effective humor is known to be a characteristic of good communication, yet shockingly little has been written about encouraging L2 humor. Let’s think about some of the issues involved. First, do we need L2 humor? Are our classrooms conducive to L2 humor, and what do students think humor is, anyway? And finally, some tips on stand-alone projects and other ideas for home-grown L2 humor for a range of English ability levels.
