概要：現代の学習者たちが学校で身につけるスキルと21世紀の市民生活に必要な力との間にはギャップがあり、その隔たりがますます拡がりつつあると教育の専門家たちは危惧しています。具体的には、「3つのR」（読み、書き、代数）を超えて「4つのC」（批判的思考と問題解決、コミュニケーション、コラボレーション、創造性と革新）を重要視するべきだという専門家も多くあります。今回、教育学的な手法で音楽を英語教育に取り入れて英語学習の強化をはかった上で、先に述べたギャップを埋めていき、２１世紀に不可欠なスキルを学習者が身につけるサポートをする方法についてお話します。さらに、それに関連して、英語学習の中で音楽を最大限に活用できるように構成されたインタラクティブなアクティビティを何種類も紹介するワークショップを行います。
Abstract: Education experts contend that there is a growing gap between the skills students acquire in schools, and the competencies necessary for 21st century citizenship. Many argue that education should extend beyond the “Three R’s” to include the “Four C’s.” The speaker will argue that using music as an ELT pedagogical tool, can not only enhance the learning of English, but also close this gap and help students acquire essential skills for the 21st century. This will be followed by a workshop incorporating interactive activities designed to empower participants to maximize their use of music in English language classes.

発表者の略歴：武庫川女子大学准教授。アイルランド出身。30年に渡ってアメリカと日本であらゆる年齢層の学習者を教えてきた経験を持つ。 専門分野として脳適合教育学の研究も行い「English Through Popular Songs」というコースの作成者でもある。
Presenter’s Bio Data: Dr. Margaret M. Lieb is an associate professor at Mukogawa Women’s University. Originally from Ireland, she has taught students of all ages in the US and Japan for three decades. Her research includes brain-compatible pedagogy, and she has designed a course entitled English Through Popular Songs for Japanese university students.
