Dr. Jean-Pierre Richard(長野県立大学)第二言語学習の動機付けと達成目標の研究について発表します。この発表は英語で行われます。
This two-hour presentation will be divided into two parts. The first, and longer, session will focus on motivations to learn the second language. Specifically, the presenter will introduce the dominant theories of L2-learning motivation, and discuss how motivation has been researched. The presenter will also describe results and implications for learners and educators in Japan. The participants will come to appreciate the importance of understanding L2-learning motivation, and will familiarize themselves with activities that can be introduced in classrooms to allow for learners to reflect on their own L2 learning. Importantly, these activities require little preparation.
In the second session, the presenter will briefly introduce one of the dominant theories from educational psychology, achievement goal orientations. Despite the important role that goal orientations have in educational psychology, they have had until now little impact in both L2 research and practice. The presenter will address three questions: What are achievement orientations? Why are achievement orientations important for second-language learners and educators? What are the achievement orientations of Japanese university English-language students?
