Empowering Autonomy-Supportive Leadership: Fostering Student-Led Learning Communities Across Disciplines

Event Speaker(s):
Daniel Hooper
Sunday, September 17, 2023 - 2:00pm to 4:30pm

In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, the role of educators goes beyond imparting knowledge; it involves nurturing future leaders who can adapt, innovate, and lead in diverse fields. This presentation/workshop introduces an autonomy-supportive approach to leadership training that transcends language learning and can be integrated into a range of different disciplines. Central to this approach is the prioritization of learners' well-being and empowerment. The strategies that will be shared in this presentation/workshop are based on empirical findings from mainstream psychology and encourage educators to create environments where every student's voice is not only heard but valued. By nurturing a positive emotional climate, educators can establish a fertile ground for learning, collaboration, and personal growth. Furthermore, through autonomy-supportive leadership training, educators can initiate a positive cycle that elevates current student leaders and instills a sense of purpose and responsibility in them. Furthermore, this approach cultivates skills that transcend the classroom, equipping students to be resilient, adaptive, and influential leaders in their future endeavors. In this event, the presenter will introduce numerous practical examples, hands-on activities, and real-world success stories that illustrate the transformative impact of an autonomy- supportive approach for student leadership development.
