June 9 2024 JALT Meeting Poster

Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) are employed at public elementary, junior high, and high schools throughout Japan, to assist Japanese Teachers of English (JTE). How ALTs are used in the classroom can vary widely, and when team teaching, the role of the JTE and ALT can sometimes be unclear (Ishino, 2021; Walter & Sponseller, 2020). For today’s meeting, we have invited two local ALTs, Mark Lee and Katrina Corron, both of whom have been teaching in the Aichi area for several years, and they have both taught in unique teaching contexts that may be beyond what some people expect of ALTs. Mark and Katrina will join our panel discussion and answer questions about how they have overcome any difficulties with team teaching, their responsibilities in the classroom, and how their jobs have changed since they first started working in Japan.
